Crazy Eights Rules

A clear summary of Crazy Eights matching rules, wild eights, drawing, and the win condition used on this site.

Matching cards

A playable card matches the discard pile top card by rank or suit. A card with neither match cannot be played unless it is an eight.

Eights are wild

You may play an eight regardless of the current rank or suit, then select the suit for the next turn.

Drawing a card

When you have no playable card, draw one card. This site version uses one-card draws rather than drawing repeatedly until a match appears.

Winning

The first player to empty their hand wins. This version ends the round at that point and does not calculate penalty points for cards left in the other hand.

Can I play any eight on the discard pile?

Yes. In this site version, an eight is wild and may be played on any discard.

Do I keep drawing until I get a match?

No. Draw one card when you have no legal play.

Are penalty points added at the end?

No. The first player to empty their hand wins; this version does not calculate penalty points.
