How to Play Crazy Eights

Learn how to start Crazy Eights, match cards, use wild eights, draw when stuck, and win the round.

Setup and objective

Two players receive seven cards each. One card starts the discard pile, and the remaining cards form the draw pile. The goal is to play every card in your hand before your opponent.

Take a turn

On your turn, play a card that matches the top discard by rank or suit. If no card matches, draw one card. Follow the game prompt if the newly drawn card can be played.

Use an eight

An eight is wild and may be played on any discard. Choose the suit that best fits the cards left in your hand; the next play must follow that suit unless another eight is played.

End the round

The first player to play their final card wins this version. The site version uses draw-one turns and does not calculate penalty scores.
